Context of the Project
Vienna or IcedViennaLatte is another wonderful streamer that is often joined by her cats; Poe, Petey and Petunia. She was updating her stream layout and wanted an on-brand teaser to put out on her social media before it went live. As such she spoke with me and asked if I had an ideas that would work with her branding, that being coffee and if somehow it could include her cats.
Problem to Solve
Incorporating cats and coffee together was a difficult hurdle; the truth is, sometimes combining animals and food, even in animation can leave people with a bad taste in their mouths due to hygiene. So in this instance we decided to go for a realistic animation base but with more cartoon-style illustrations for the cats to take away the element of realism that some people may have found uncomfortable.
Design Process
Vienna gave me free reign on this project and just had two real wants - stay on brand, include the cats. As such I pitched her my idea for a coffee cup with liquid swirling around it with the cats peeking out of the cup. She said to run with it so I first put together a plan for how to approach each step:
Design the coffee cup and label to match her current colour palette
Animate the coffee swirling around the cup to give a sense of depth
Illustrate each cat in a cartoon fashion whilst trying to convey their personalities
Put the whole project together with appropriate fonts and final touches
Result
Vienna was overjoyed with the result, she said I had really captured the personality of each cat and she felt the animation was simple yet perfectly fitting for what she wanted:
A significant uplift in social media engagement leading up to her reveal as people had seen her teaser
21% more viewers at her reveal stream
11% more subscriptions to her channel thanks to increased viewership
Using a very simple teaser Vienna garnered curiosity as to what her channel was planning and saw a lift in not just viewers but also subscribers.
